A customer’s kettle handle came loose after five weeks
Hoko-CGA set out the Consumer Guarantees Act path and drafted a reply. You decide whether it is a minor or serious problem.
- DraftSimulatedHoko-CGA
The counter sign says “No refunds on sale items”
Hoko-CGA flagged it and suggested Consumer Protection’s own wording for the sign.

“Was/now” price on wool throws in the weekend email
The throws were on promotion for 7 of the last 12 weeks, so the “was” price may no longer be the usual price. Cellar suggested new wording.
- DraftSimulatedHoko-CGA
Gift cards from the old print run show a 12-month expiry
Cards sold from 16 March 2026 must allow at least 3 years. Hoko-CGA drafted a note for the reprint.

The pack
What this OS adds for your industry.
Each module shows what it can do today. Proposed means designed, not built.
Returns and guarantees
Works out the Consumer Guarantees Act path for a returns question, drafts the reply to the customer, and checks your counter sign for wording that misleads.
Guidance and drafts, not legal advice. For a dispute, talk to a lawyer or the Disputes Tribunal.
Official sources
- Consumer Guarantees Act (opens in a new tab)
- Obligations under the Consumer Guarantees Act (for businesses) (opens in a new tab)
- Change of mind (opens in a new tab)

- Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, section 43: no contracting out except for business transactions (opens in a new tab)
- Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 (opens in a new tab)
Gift cards and layby
Checks each gift card against the minimum 3-year expiry for cards sold from 16 March 2026, and works through a layby agreement and a cancellation.
Guidance and drafts, not legal advice. For a dispute, talk to a lawyer or the Disputes Tribunal.
Pricing and claims checker
Paste an advert, sign or product page: it flags “was” prices, sales, RRP comparisons, claims that need evidence, GST and surcharges, and tells you whether unit pricing applies.
The checker flags wording to look at. It cannot see your evidence or your price history, so it never says a claim is fine to publish.

Stock count and reorder
A working stock register: enter the count, see differences against the system at cost, and get a draft reorder list. Nothing is ordered or adjusted.
Year-end stock valuation follows Inland Revenue’s rules. Your accountant confirms which apply.
Official sources
Loyalty and privacy notice
Builds a plain privacy notice for a loyalty programme or online store: what you collect, why, who sees it, and an IPP 3A paragraph when details come from someone else.
IPP 3A (in force since 1 May 2026) covers information collected from someone other than the person it is about.
People
Leave, holiday pay questions, employment agreements and staff policies, with Aroha, the HR specialist shared by every business OS.
Rosters, pay, leave and anything about a person’s employment go to Aroha.
The Workforce
Specialist agents, grounded in official sources.
Workforce is the agent team inside the OS. Each specialist reads official New Zealand pages live, cites the source and date for every claim and fact-checks its own draft. Drafts are not legal advice.
Hoko-CGA Returns, guarantees, gift cards and layby
