Lakeside Hall.
IllustrativeThe project
A tall gabled hall for 180 people, with a kitchen and stage that open to a deck on the lake side.

The hall replaces a tired 1960s building on the same footprint. The committee wanted one big room that could hold a wedding, a sports night and a polling day, and that the town could still afford to heat.
Seven glulam portal frames span the hall on grids 1 to 7. The services sit in a lower block on grid D: stage, kitchen, foyer and toilets, so the tall room stays clear.
The frame is up. The progress scan of the frame and slab sits against the design below, and an amendment to the consent for a wider deck is with the architect for review.

Fig. 14Lessons
- Order the glulam frames at consent, not at tender: the lead time set the programme.
- Get the hall committee to walk a full event through the plan before developed design is signed off.
- Scan the slab before the frame goes up. One frame base was out by 28 mm and was caught before erection.
